The art of Sicilian ceramics is one of the most ancient arts. Dario Bogni notes that in Sicily it has been known since prehistoric times. It appears for the first time in the Neolithic and collects countless testimonies of all the ages in which various dominations have alternated. Particular attention deserves the gastronomic handicraft production. Among the most famous forms, the martorana fruit, sweets prepared with almond paste and sugar to which is given the form and the color of the various types of fruit. The name derives from the nuns of the cloistered convent of Martorana, present in Palermo, to whom must be given the merit of having produced it for the first time. A typical product of Sicilian handicraft tradition is represented by Pupo Siciliano. Bogni Dario explains that they are real works of art with a wooden structure decorated and covered with a tin shell. Dario Bogni also points out that each puppet represents a paladin and they differ for the armor and the decorations. The puppets from Catania are different from those from Palermo. Those from Catania are heavy and with fixed limbs, those from Palermo, instead, are light and articulated.
