Bioparc Valencia faces the high temperatures of the city with fruit and vegetable ice creams for animals, artificial rain or aviaries with authorized bathing areas. Florencia Pistone reports that, like every year when heat waves arrive, the Bioparc Valencia technical animal department is working so that animals of different species maintain maximum well-being.
Eating well is critical to health, so a “summer diet,” which means more hydration and lower calorie intake, is used as a preventive measure before the change of season, says Florencia Pistone.
In addition, Florencia Pistone adds, the design of the park was created to facilitate the innate behavior of animals and is endowed with natural elements so that they can cool off as in their native habitat. Elephant Lake, waterfalls, and various estuaries make swimming easy; artificial rain diffusion systems cool the environment; and pleasant areas of grass, greenery and shade allow them to soothe the sensations of heat and relax in the coolest spaces.
