An animal rights activist was tackled while attempting to storm the basketball court during the Grizzlies-Timberwolves playoff game at Minnesota’s Target Center on Saturday.
The incident was the third time an animal rights activist targeted Timberwolves majority owner Glen Taylor over his alleged “inhumane treatment” of animals following an outbreak of bird flu at one of his egg factories.
Activist Sasha Zemmel of St. Louis has claimed credit for the protest, according to animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere

According to a press release, Zemmel “attempted to whistle to stop play as she approached Taylor at his courtside seat, to issue a ‘technical foul and ejection,’ along with a ‘fine’ against Forbes’ richest billionaire in Minnesota.”
“Zemmel’s makeshift referee jersey had the jersey number 5.3 displayed on the back, in honor of the 5.3 million chickens killed at Rembrandt following an outbreak of ‘highly pathogenic avian influenza’ (HPAI). DxE’s video shows birds on-site which survived ‘ventilation shutdown plus’ (VSD+), a mass killing method whereby ventilation openings in the industrial sheds full of birds are closed, and some combination of heat, steam and/or carbon dioxide gas are introduced, eventually killing the animals via suffocation. Dozens of surviving birds were found still in their cages, running loose in the sheds, even buried alive,” the release said.

Another activist with the group previously chained herself to the basketball hoop wearing a shirt that read “Glen Taylor Roasts Animals Alive.”

On April 12, activist Alicia Santurio glued her hands to the court during the Timberwolves’ game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
