Ms. Massie-Peterson served on the faculty of the Chicago Public School System from 2001 to 2012, where she also made significant contributions to curriculum development across subjects like history, mathematics and reading. She continued to help students through the A-Plus Tutoring Service from 2012 until 2013 and, at the Delta-T Group, she was a social worker and teacher between 1998 and 2001. In 2012, Ms. Massie-Peterson shifted her attention to insurance and financial services to become the chief executive officer of TIK Enterprises.
As an educator, Ms. Massie-Peterson taught students with varying competencies in reading and math, and she excelled in developing innovative pedagogical approaches. She implemented a program called Read 180 to cultivate progressive teaching methods, including reliance on technology to complete daily assessments and learning tasks. The program was financed by the Chicago Public Schools and the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center; and Ms. Massie-Peterson remains proud of the advancements the program afforded students in reading, writing and literature.
Ms. Massie-Peterson holds an array of certifications that are indicative of the diverse paths she has followed in her effort to help others. These include teaching certification for kindergarten through ninth grades, with a specialty in mathematics instruction. She is also credentialed by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) and holds a certificate in criminal justice and corrections from Aurora University.
Equally as impressive is Ms. Massie-Peterson’s academic record. In 2011, she earned a Master of Business Administration from DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management, where she focused on entrepreneurial studies and education management. She also holds a Master of Arts from the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice — formerly known as the School of Social Service Administration — at the University of Chicago. Ms. Massie-Peterson’s Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Chicago is a dual degree in education and Spanish.
As the chief executive officer of TIK Enterprises, Ms. Massie-Peterson works with a variety of insurance companies as a broker, and she partners with marketing firms as well. She is also an expert in individualized estate planning; and deploys different assessments to clarify a client’s needs, in terms of both insurance and financial security. Ms. Massie-Peterson sits down with individuals, families, and small businesses; always with an educator’s mindset to target the most critical data; and then build the best strategies for making sound financial decisions, realizing financial goals, and securing financial legacies.
Ms. Massie-Peterson is proud to engage on a civic and regional level, having served on the board at her local YMCA and chamber of commerce. Moreover, her history of active association memberships reflects her varied interests and commitments, including the National Association of Social Workers and the Mathematical Association of America. Ms. Massie-Peterson also served on the Health Insurance Committee of the Life Underwriters’ Association of Chicago.
Of her many achievements, Ms. Massie-Peterson cites her involvement in the accreditation of a child welfare agency as one of her proudest moments. She also earned recognition for her success with the Mayor’s Chief Employment Program for the City of Aurora, Illinois. Notably, Ms. Massie-Peterson worked in the Crime Prevention and Community Relations Bureau at the Aurora Police Department for approximately 10 years.
